The Bird Book Project

The birds are dying, and with them the stories they carry.

In a town where stories determine what survives, and remembering isn’t safe….Derora is a graduate student working in the university library, trying to hold on to the only thread left of her missing mother, who would take Derora there in the summers as a child.

Through a series of events, she is pulled into the hidden academic world of the library’s Special Collections. There she finds evidence that the magical birds from her childhood, keepers of human stories, might be real and slipping toward extinction. As Derora pieces together what’s real, she learns that this extinction may be by design.

If Derora can’t piece together what her family has spent her whole life trying to erase, the disappearance of folklore itself may become final, taking the birds and everything they remember with it.
