A is for Angela

Angela writes and edits with a deep curiosity for the complexities of character and story, always drawn to what makes each voice distinct. She believes writing is both an art and a conversation, and finds real joy in meeting with writers, listening closely, and helping shape their vision into something clear and resonant.

She studied literature and gender studies at Miami University of Ohio (yes, the one in the cornfields, not the beaches), and her Midwestern roots run deep. She values patience, honesty, and heart in both life and storytelling.

When she’s not reading or writing, Angela is likely browsing through a secondhand bookshop, wandering through a museum, or deep in conversation at a coffee shop. She also hikes with her greyhound, Fable, while still working on becoming someone who truly enjoys the outdoors.

She’s currently at work on a speculative novel about voice and agency for young women, and a collection of surreal, Midwest Gothic short stories.

Oh, you want a resume:

Angela is a fiction writer, creative writing instructor, and developmental editor with over thirteen years of experience helping writers shape meaningful, manuscript-length work. She holds a B.A. in Literature with a minor in Women & Gender Studies from Miami University and a specialization in developmental editing from the University of Washington.

Beyond the classroom, Angela has extensive editorial experience as a freelance developmental editor, working with authors at various stages of the revision process. She serves as an acquisitions reader for a longstanding literary magazine, where she evaluates submissions for structure, voice, and thematic resonance, and has twice judged the WFWA Star Awards.

She is also the founder and facilitator of a monthly community arts group for writers and artists who desire creative momentum and connection. Each month, the group gathers around a shared prompt, creates new work in response, and meets to share and encourage each other. The group occasionally publishes a small zine-style journal to showcase member work, a celebration of process as much as product, and a reminder that art is best made together.

Angela believes that writing is both an art and a conversation. She finds genuine joy in meeting with writers, listening closely to their stories, and collaborating to bring each project into sharper, more resonant focus. For her, editing isn’t about fixing pages, it’s about building a relationship that honors the writer’s voice and helps carry the work where it wants to go.
